A young sailor smiling aboard an Optimist

Financial assistance

Cost should never keep a kid off the water.

MBJA is a nonprofit, and scholarships are part of why we exist. Need-based aid is available for every summer program.

How it works

Three steps, no awkward conversations

Applications are confidential. Coaches are not told who received aid, and nothing about a sailor's experience changes.

  1. 01

    Fill out the form

A short confidential application asking about your family's situation and which program you'd like to attend.

  2. 02

    We review it

A small committee reviews requests as they arrive. Awards are based on need, not on when you apply.

  3. 03

    You get a code

If awarded, you'll receive a registration code to apply your award at checkout on Clubspot.

Good to know

Common questions

Who is eligible?
Any family in the Holland area who would find the cost of a program a barrier. You do not need to belong to a yacht club.
How much is awarded?
Awards vary with need and available funds, and can cover a portion or all of a program's tuition.
When should I apply?
As early as you can — funds are limited and classes fill. That said, we review applications throughout the season.
Does it cover gear?
Tell us on the form if you need a lifejacket or other equipment. We keep loaner gear on hand.
