Who should take this course?

Sailors who have completed 1st through 5th grade and graduated from Opti Level 2 — especially sailors who may not be interested in our Opti racing program yet, or who are looking for more practice first. Sailors are expected to be able to solo-sail.

Weather permitting, there will also be sailing time on Lake Michigan.

What is this course?

Opti Level 3 works as a stand-alone course or as the transition between our Opti learn-to-sail and learn-to-race programs. Sailors hone solo sailing, learning to control a boat in varying conditions — using a tiller extension, trimming properly, and maneuvering within the boat on longer sails. Repeat sessions are encouraged.

Do we need a boat?

MBJA-owned Optimist Dinghies are provided for all participants. If you would prefer your sailor use a family-owned Opti, just let us know. Boats are available for use during class time.
